Abstract

For the philosopher Alain Badiou, Paul of Tarsus, in whose letters the occidental Christian tradition is pretty much defined, is the founder of universalism by inventing “a language in which folly, scandal and weakness take the place of cognitive reason, order and strength”. The purpose of this text is not the entirely disprove Badiou’s concept of Paul, we will discuss the limits which are necessary to impose to certain statements of his such as the one I’ve mentioned before, not with the intention to go back to an innocuous and comfortable concept of Paul for those in positions of power -that is to say, the concept of Paul at the end of the first century, the one from deuterosis-, that would be to gift Paul to the right wing, instead, I aim to subtract a “Paulinism” that may not be of benefit to the left wing.
